Good morning!
The title of my Harvard research report is "Challenges and Strategies of Higher Vocational Education in China with the New Demographics: -Based on the Data Analysis of China’s Seventh National Census".
It has been 1045 days since I received the admission notice from Harvard on November 11, 2020.
Since entering school, I have listened to more than 100 academic reports online and offline, including the reports by Lawrence Henry Summers, former president of Harvard; John Hawkins, the father of the world's creative industries and a famous British expert on creative and cultural industries; Bridget Long, dean of the Harvard Graduate School of Education; Dan Schwartz, Dean of the School of Education at Stanford University;David Sandalow, former deputy secretary of the US Department of Energy, founding scholar of the Center for Global Energy Policy, School of International and Public Affairs of Columbia University, and member of the Steering Committee of Beijing Professor, Global Center of Columbia University; and Jeffrey Ward, Dean of Homerton College, Cambridge University.
I have published 10 academic papers, including: "Analysis of Faculty Development of Applied Universities in China" in an American Journal Education and Training Research, "Current Situation and Improvement Strategies of Teacher Education in Applied Universities in China" and "Development Experience of Applied Universities in China" in a British Journal Vocational Education Research, “Research on the Roles of Chinese Universities from the Perspective of Triple Helix Model” He published a paper "Research on the Role of Chinese Universities from the Perspective of Triple Helix Model" in a French journal Frontier of Educational Research. I have also had four academic monographs such as Research and Construction of the Teaching Mode of Higher Vocational Colleges Based on Creativity published by Press of University of Science and Technology of China.
Now, I’m going to report from the following six aspects: problem statement, the theoretical basis for the influence of demographics on the development of higher vocational education, the core characteristics of China's new demographics, the challenges faced by higher vocational education with the new demographics, the development strategy of higher vocational education with the new demographics, and references.
1.Problem statement
The seventh national census identified the population quantity, structure, distribution, and migration in China, and clarified the trend characteristics, structural evolution and social changes of population changes. What challenges and opportunities will it bring to the development of higher vocational education in China, and how should we plan ahead to improve our adaptability to future population changes?
2.Theoretical basis for the influence of demographics on the development of higher vocational education
With the deepening of the research and practice by Chinese and Western scholars on the relationship between population and education, a general consensus has been formed on the restrictive role of population in education development: education development is always restricted by population quantity, structure and distribution; and the scale, function and layout of education should match the number, structure and distribution of population.
Population and education are interacting with each other in extremely complex relationship. Education can be either a cause or a result of population change. The two interact and restrict each other.
3.Core characteristics of China's new demographics
China is facing the population reality with negative growth, inverted pyramid structure, expanding migration, and stable quality improvement.
4.Challenges faced by higher vocational education with the new demographics
First, contradiction between the fluctuation of population and the weak awareness for education planning in higher vocational education. Second, contradiction between the change of population structure and the lag of major setting in higher vocational education. Third, contradiction between the intensification of population migration and the poor adaptability of higher vocational education. Fourth, contradiction between the improvement of population quality and the low overall quality of higher vocational education.
5.Development strategy of higher vocational education with the new demographics
First, optimizing the development plan of higher vocational education. Second, innovating the development direction of higher vocational education. Third, optimizing the spatial layout of higher vocational education. Fourth, improving the development quality of higher vocational education. Fifth, learning from the successful experience of Taiwan, China in higher vocational education coping with population changes.
6.References
This research mainly referred to 48 pieces of literature on the relationship between education and population at home and abroad.
Harvard is one of the most outstanding universities in the world. I admire it a lot! In 2012 and 2013, I visited Harvard twice.

我的哈佛大学研究报告题目是“人口新形势下中国高等职业教育发展的挑战与对策——基于中国第七次人口普查数据的分析”。
自2020年11月11日,我收到哈佛大学录取通知书至今,历经1045天。
入学至今,我通过线上线下方式,先后聆听了百余场学术报告,包括哈佛大学原校长劳伦斯·亨利·萨默斯,世界创意产业之父、英国著名创意文化产业研究专家约翰·霍金斯,哈佛大学教育学院院长布里奇特·朗,美国斯坦福大学教育学院院长丹·施瓦茨,美国能源部前副部长、哥伦比亚大学国际与公共事务学院全球能源政策中心创始学者、哥伦比亚大学全球中心北京教授指导委员会委员大卫·桑德罗,剑桥大学霍默顿学院院长杰弗里·沃德等的报告。
先后发表了10篇学术论文。包括:在美国《教育与培训研究杂志》发表论文《中国应用型大学教学团队建设探析》。在英国《职业教育研究杂志》发表论文《中国应用型大学教师教育现状及改进策略》和《中国应用型大学发展经验》等。在法国《教育研究前沿》发表论文《三螺旋模型视角下的中国大学角色研究》。先后在中国科学技术大学出版社出版《基于创新能力的高职教学模式研究与构建》等4部学术专著。
我从以下六个方面进行汇报:问题陈述、人口特征影响高等职业教育发展的理论基础、中国人口新形势的核心特征、人口新形势下高职教育面临挑战、人口新形势下高职业教育发展策略、参考文献。
1.问题陈述
中国第七次全国人口普查全面查清中国人口数量、人口结构、人口分布、人口迁移等各方面情况,掌握了人口变化的趋势性特征、结构性演变、人口社会变迁等情况。这将会对中国高等职业教育发展带来怎样的挑战和机遇,高职教育该如何提前谋划应对,以提高对未来人口变化的适应性呢?
2.人口特征影响高等职业教育发展的理论基础
随着中西方学者对人口与教育关系研究和实践的深入,关于人口对教育发展的制约作用形成了普遍共识:教育发展始终受到人口数量、人口结构、人口分布等情况的制约;教育的规模、功能、布局要与人口的数量、结构、分布相匹配。
人口与教育是一个互动的过程,二者的关系极为复杂,教育既可以是人口变化的一个原因,也可以是人口变化的一种结果。它们之间是相互作用、相互制约的关系。
3.中国人口新形势的核心特征
一是中国人口数量进入负增长阶段;二是人口结构呈现倒金字塔形;三是人口迁移的规模不断扩大;四是人口质量的提升趋势稳定。
4.人口新形势下高职教育面临挑战
一是人口数量波动与高职教育规划意识不强的矛盾;二是人口结构变化与高职教育专业设置滞后的矛盾;三是人口迁移加剧与高职教育布局适应性差的矛盾;四是人口质量提升与高职教育整体质量不高的矛盾。
5.人口新形势下高职业教育发展策略
一是优化高职教育发展规划;二是革新高职教育发展方向;三是优化高职教育空间布局;四是提升高职教育发展质量;五是中国台湾高等职业教育应对人口变化的成功经验。
6.参考文献
本研究主要参考了国内外关于教育和人口关系的48篇文献。
